Welcome, friends old and new, to the site and to the season of autumn. Paradoxically, I find this time of fall to be a period of revisiting intentions set earlier in the year. Perhaps it is the deeply imbedded memory of back to school days; I still can recall the smell of halls and staircases newly painted as with wonder and a bit of trepidation, I made my way to a new classroom, teacher and classmates.
As the trees display their tapestry of colors, relinquishing the vibrant energy of summer, slowing down making way for the season of harvest, abundance and gratitude, it feels like a time of renewal and commitment to the activities that support and feed the highest intention for self care and growth. It feels like an opportune time to engage in what naturally sparks curiosity.. perhaps a book club, a writing course, a hiking club. Cooler temps and shorter days feels like a natural invitation for mindfulness practice in the late afternoon or early evening. It is a time for self- reflection and checking in with our own willingness for slowing down and making time to harvest the fruits of our practice. The words of Maya Stein's poem "Allilance" ring true for me:
You have to make an alliance with your anguish,” he said, “not wage war against it.” And I thought of all the fists I had shaken at misfortune: games lost because the shot clock ran out, a good meal scorched in a forgotten oven, money dropped on a dress worn only once, the bully in 6th grade, the math test in 9th, the wrong outfit at Halloween. But of course, this isn’t what he meant. If I were brave enough, I’d tell you how my heart has raged for love, stretched thin as a high wire. If I were brave enough, I’d tell you how my body has been fighting to stay upright on every precipitous downhill the city throws at it. If I were brave enough, I’d climb into your lap and weep with longing. All I can say is that any attempt at beauty and hope is land-mined with failure. And so the perilous track-making begins. Wending our way through, there are possible clutches at sunlight, at windows, at yes. We are each of us inches from death. We are each of us inches from life. We are each of us inches from one another.
What a perfect time to mull over these words… not only in the mind, but to allow them to take root in the heart!
If you pause, and find that this is the season where you are longing to explore depth, meaning and intention in your own “wild and precious” life, or change some deep seated habits that are no longer aligned with how you want to be, perhaps you will be drawn to one of the trainings currently being offered.

New: MB's Monthly Tip for Habit Change Mind Mapping:
When you find yourself in a mood, maybe down, depressed or anxious and worrying, maybe just feeling a strong sense of malaise or fatigue, getting into the habit of simply asking the question: "Am I in a habit loop?" can remind you to engage in the mind mapping process. Sometimes habit loops can be tricky and not readily identifiable. I have found a list of common ones helpful. Here are a few that just might jog your process a bit: worry loop; procrastination loop; the "why" habit loop, perfectionism loop, expectation loop, self-judgement loop, panic loop, rumination loop. I'm happy to add yours to the list... drop me an email!

What people are saying about Mary Beth's Coaching for "Unwinding Anxiety"
Individual Coaching available by appointment (request complimentary consultation) mbfstern@gmail.com “Mary Beth’s coaching in conjunction with Unwinding Anxiety enabled me to receive clarification on the individual modules and tools, as I proceeded through the program at my own pace. It was like having a personal tour guide, available when I felt the need, to really dive into applying the lessons to the unique challenges of my own life, stepping out of habitual patterns and discovering more creative responses.” Suzanne S. Brookline, Ma
“Mary Beth was exceptional at guiding me through the nuances and questions I had regarding the unwinding anxiety program. She not only helped me figure out ways to enjoy and do mindfulness practices in a more palatable way, but also helped me realize dynamics in my life that would take me to the next level in areas of my life. Working with her was easy and a period of growth and amazing transition for myself. Thanks again Mary Beth.” Ian L. Toronto, Canada
What people are saying about Mary Beth's Coaching for "Eat Right Now" “Mary Beth suggested Eat Right Now as a tool to incorporate Mindfulness into my relationship with food and eating. Being a little skeptical, she offered to guide me through the program as I made my way through the modules. This combination proved to be exactly the right ticket for me and the coaching kept me aware, motivated and focused. Mary Beth’s accompanying me through the program provided technical help when needed, encouragement in applying habit change principles in concrete situations in life as they emerged, and an overall sense of someone in my corner as I adopted a new way of being with food and eating.” Tom W.
